Lucy Emory Hendricks

Founder and Principal Designer

Legacy Interiors South Carolina.jpg

I have over twenty-five years experience in the furniture and design industry. While having the good fortune to work as a buyer for one the country’s largest outdoor furniture companies, I gained extensive knowledge of outdoor furnishings and fabrics and assisted my clients in the design and installation of outdoor living areas. After creating memorable, yet functional, outdoor living spaces, those clients began seeking my advise on interior spaces as well.

As my clientele grew, I transitioned to working in both interior and exterior design. I worked for a full service design firm for a number of years, and I opened my own firm, Legacy Interiors, nearly a decade ago. In doing so, I followed a long lineage of entrepreneurial women—my grandmother was a small business owner during the Depression, not retiring until she was over 80 years old.

While I focus the majority of my time on projects in the Carolinas, I work across the country, assisting clients with various design needs. I have been asked to lecture and present programs on a multitude of design issues and topics, as well as host design seminars. Over the course of twenty-five years, I have won numerous awards and honors, have consistently placed first in the Parade of Homes in the Carolinas, and have been featured in respected publications. I believe the foundation of great design is great communication and a relentless focus on the details. I know that the more I understand my clients and their lifestyle, the better equipped I am to transform their living environment into a place that not only reflects who they are, but allows them a beautiful space to live in and celebrate both the small moments in life, as well as the momentous ones.

I’m a straight shooter, with a large dose of southern charm, and I’m not afraid to role my sleeves up and get the job done, which I attribute to the example set by my father, Coach Ed Emory. Whether you are interested in updating your existing home or building a new home, I have the experience and expertise to capture your aesthetic.

Nothing compares to hearing a client enter their new house and say, “Wow, this feels like home.”

Are you ready to take the next step in creating your dream home?

I wanted to provide you with a letter of thanks and reference based on Jim and my experience in working with you since we signed our contract last June. As you know, we were nervous about building and decorating our retirement home in Briarcliff while living in Atlanta.

Working with you has been an absolute pleasure. You were there from the beginning, helping make selections on everything from lighting and furnishings to brick and exterior paint colors. No task was ever too small and I appreciate your trips to the granite yard and other places when I could not be there. You always made time to meet with me when I was in town and kept the project moving forward.

As an accountant, I appreciate the professional way you keep records. I always had a picture of what was ordered, the cost and the deposit paid. You kept me continuously informed on the status of all of the items through delivery and installation.

We are so happy to be in the home you helped us create. I love the furnishings, light fixtures, window treatments – just everything you put together. I know we are getting close to completing the finishing touches but I can’t thank you enough. I admire you as a designer, business woman and now my friend.

Please feel free to share this with future clients. I am happy to speak with anyone considering you as their designer and please feel free to show off your work at our home.
